What is GRE?

GRE stands for Graduate Record Examinations and is administered by the ETS. It is a requirement for you to get into most of the graduate programs including business or law primarily in the United States and Canada. The GRE General Test provides helps schools compare applicants’ strengths which means you, with high GRE scores are perceived as a strong applicant to succeed in their graduate programs. The GRE scores are valid for 5 years.

Can you take GRE during the COVOD-19 pandemic?

Due to the pandemic COVOD-19, the ETS is offering a ‘General GRE Test’ at home option in many countries including in Nepal. You can take the test at home, and is monitored by a human proctor. You need to have a computer with Windows OS. Please use Chrome or Firefox browser. Speaker, camera and microphone whether these are internal or internal, have to be in a full working condition. What does the GRE General Test?

  • Verbal Reasoning

It assess your ability to comprehend written text, form conclusions and figure out relationships between two or more parts of a sentence.  Verbal Reasoning measure contains 3 types of questions: Reading Comprehension, Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence. Verbal Reasoning scores are reported on a scale from 130 to 170.

  • Quantitative Reasoning 

It measures your ability to understand, interpret and analyze quantitative information, solve problems using mathematical models, and apply the basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis. You will need to have Arithmatic, Geometry, and Data Analysis skills to do well in this section. Quantitative Reasoning scores are reported on a scale from 130 to 170.

  • Analytical Writing 

 It measures your critical thinking and analytical writing skills. It also measures your ability to articulate and support complex ideas with relevant reasons and examples. Analytical Writing scores are reported on a scale from 0 to 6.

What is the cost of GRE in Nepal?

The cost of GRE registration in Nepal is US $ 205, which is equivalent to NPR 122.04 (as per the exchange rate on April 20, 2020). The Central Bank of Nepal doesn’t allow banks to issue credit card in USD to the students and their families who do not have income in USD; therefore, you can go to any of the ‘A’ Class Banks such as Nepal Investment Bank, Kumari Bank, Siddhartha Bank, Himalayan Bank and others. You will need to pay a service fee which ranges from NPR 500 to NPR 1,000. You can create an ETS account to register for the test at https://ereg.ets.org/ereg/public/customer/create#/personal#top.

Do Business and Law Schools accept GRE?

Many universities now accept GRE for admission to MBA programs worldwide which include but not limited to Sandford University, Harvard Business School, Dartmouth College, Columbia University, Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), University of Texas Austin, University of Sydney, University of Reading, University of Toronto.
