Undoubtably, there must be certain reasons why so many students including Nepalese prefer Canada. The key causes behind such huge upsurge are High-quality education, work while study, possibilities for innovation research and easier pathway to immigration.

It is no hidden secret that most international student plan to apply for permanent residence in Canada and the number is 60% as per CBIE.

Even though the merits associated with studying in Canada are high, the process involved in getting Canadian Visa is highly challenging and the meticulously carved undertaking of such complex process by the professionals has been reason behind Visa Success Rate for Canada From Nepal.

Given the outbreak of COVID pandemic, the global economy suffered a lot and Canadian government started looking of uplifting the economy of their country through attracting immigrants.

Recently, Immigration minister Rachel Bendayan held optimistic view on the recruitment of international students and termed them as future immigrants and skilled workforce which can help to solve the country’s labor shortages. So, it is not difficult to understand that liberal policy of government has contributed towards visa success.

With the introduction of 2024 student caps, the government aims to regulate overall student numbers. Although this policy has resulted in a 45% decline in overall approvals, it has simultaneously raised the standard of submitted applications resulting in a visa success rate of approximately 85% as of 2024 for Nepalese students because of the quality applications.

Careful selection of courses and university:

Though this might sound obvious, but nowadays students along with their counsellors mostly take a time and find the courses which is relevant to their previous work and academics.

The right match courses are another key where students prove their academic excellence to the visa officer. Also, Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) approved universities and Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) eligible courses are common among students and such universities and colleges are likely to fetch visa for students as well.

    Easiness in Educational Loan Sanction:

Another striking factor to consider in this aspect is that Nepalese government has made loan for educational purposes easier and assessible to the citizens. You can read our previous blog on the procedures for obtaining the education loan.

The availability of loan is acknowledged highly by the visa officer and is another reason why students are so successful in obtaining visa.

    Understanding the English Proficiency Requirement:

There is general understanding among students to have at least 6.0 to get enrolled in undergraduate courses and 6.5 for post graduate courses and Canadian high commission carefully observe this requirement before issuing a visa.

This English proficiency satisfies the requirement and this is also another reason student possessing this English requirement has got their visa easily. Kindly note the PTE requirements differ among the universities and consult before converting your PTE scores to equivalent IELTS scores.

    Strong Statement of Purpose:

The letter showing the real passion and their future goals are depicted in their Sops and many students allocate enough time for this and this is the reason most of them have well-crafted letter.

The students are also aware of the consequences faced due to plagiarism and thus such act has been decreased drastically in recent times. So, the logical and honest writing has led to many visa successes in recent days.

Now you have understood that why Canada has been a successful venture for most of the students. But we strongly suggest that carefully do your research or contact the experts if you really want to get your dream destination Canada for study purposes.

What You Really Need to Know About Social Media Vetting for Your U.S. Student Visa

    $
    0
    0

Planning to study in the USA soon? If yes, here’s something new you need to know. The U.S. government has recently made a change in how they process student visas. It’s about your social media.

Since June 18, 2025, students applying for F-1, M-1, and J-1 visas are now required to make their social media accounts public when applying for a visa. This update follows a short pause in appointment scheduling that happened back in May.

What Does “Social Media Vetting” Mean?

Vetting just means checking or looking over something. Here, it means U.S. visa officers will look at your public social media to make sure your identity, education, and what you share online all match up.
They do this to keep the visa process safe and stop any cheating.

They are not trying to hack your accounts or ask for passwords. They’ll only see what any person on the internet can see if your account is public.

They might compare your online details with what you wrote in your visa application and what you talk during the interview. So, if your bio says you’re working as an accountant but your DS-160 form says working as a manager, that could raise questions.

    Which Platforms Should You Share?

When you fill out the DS-160 visa form, you’ll be asked to list the platforms you have used in the last five years. Some common ones are:

    – Facebook
    – Instagram
    – LinkedIn
    – Twitter (X)
    – TikTok
    – YouTube
    – Snapchat
    – Reddit
    – Pinterest
    – Tumblr

If you don’t use social media, you can just say “None” on the form, but don’t lie. But if you use them, make sure to mention about all the social media accounts and make your profile to public viewing until your visa process is done.

What did the U.S. Government Say?

    Here’s what was shared officially:

“On May 27, 2025, the U.S. Department of State paused new student visa appointments to strengthen the screening process. Starting June 18, 2025, bookings reopened with a requirement for public social media profiles.”

This rule is for everyone, no matter which country you are from, even students from Nepal. It is not here to scare you. It is simply to make sure the visa process stays honest and safe for all.

    Why This Matters?

If your social media profile is private, it might raise questions during your interview. You can still book an appointment, but during the interview, officers may check your public profile. Sometimes, your visa process can get delayed or even rejected if something on your profile looks wrong, confusing or incomplete. That is why it is a good idea to check your social media and make sure it matches what you wrote on your DS-160 form.

    What Should You Avoid Posting?

When you go through your social media, look carefully for things like this:

    – Posts supporting terrorism or violent groups
    – Antisemitic content (hate against Jewish people)
    – Racist or religious hate speech
    – Jokes or memes that promote violence or crime
    – Fake educational or job claims
    – Political content that encourages extreme views
    – Content that feels inconsistent with your visa purpose

Even something that seemed harmless years ago could now affect your application. So go through your old posts carefully.

Simple Ways to Prepare Your Social Media

These are a few simple things you can do:

    – Use your real name and a clear profile picture
    – Make the main platforms you use public for the time being
    – Clean up anything that looks negative, violent, or dishonest
    – Double-check that your bio, city, school, and work info are correct
    – Avoid deleting everything suddenly, just make it honest and simple

If you’re unsure, ask your counselor here at Edwise Foundation to help you review it.

What Can Happen If You Don’t Follow This?

    – Your visa appointment might not go through
    – You could be asked for extra documents or undergo longer screening
    – Worst case, your visa could be refused

Don’t worry. If you have been honest and respectful on your social media, you should be fine.

    FAQ’s

Will they ask for my password?

No. They only see what’s public. Never share your passwords.

What if I don’t use social media at all?

That’s okay. Just say “None” when asked. No problem.

Can I make my account private again after my interview?

Yes, once the visa process is complete, you can change it back.

Is it bad to delete old posts now?

Not necessarily, but avoid deleting everything at once. Just clean up anything clearly inappropriate.

Will I be told if they check my account?

No. It’s part of their silent background checks. You won’t get a message.

Final Advice: Be Real and Stay Ready

This new rule is something all students need to take seriously, but you don’t need to be scared. If you are honest, have nothing to hide, and truly want to study in the U.S., this won’t stop you.

STEM vs. Non-STEM Degrees in the USA: What’s Better for International Students?

    $
    0
    0

Choosing to study in the United States is a life-changing decision. One of the most critical choices international students must make is selecting a major—STEM or Non-STEM. While personal interests and career goals play a central role, this decision also directly affects job prospects, work authorization in the U.S., and future opportunities in your home country.

In the U.S., your degree type can influence how long you’re legally allowed to work after graduation, thanks to programs like Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT Extension.

Understanding the Key Difference: STEM vs. Non-STEM Degrees

International students on an F-1 visa are eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT)—a temporary work authorization related to their field of study. However, the duration of OPT differs significantly based on your major.

    • STEM Degrees: Eligible for 12 months OPT + 24-month STEM extension = Total 36 months
    • Non-STEM Degrees: Eligible for only 12 months OPT

This difference makes STEM degrees more favorable for students looking to gain extended work experience in the U.S. job market.

What is a STEM Degree in the USA?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These degrees focus on innovation, analytical thinking, and problem-solving. They are highly valued by employers for their practical and technical relevance.

Popular STEM Degree Examples in the USA:

    • Computer Science
    • Data Science
    • Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical)
    • Biology
    • Information Technology
    • Mathematics and Statistics
    • Business Analytics (if STEM-designated)

Benefits of Studying a STEM Degree in the USA:

    • Extended work authorization (up to 3 years via OPT + STEM OPT)
    • High salary potential
    • Strong job security
    • High global demand, especially in IT, data, and engineering sectors

What is a Non-STEM Degree in the USA?

Non-STEM degrees encompass fields outside science and technology, emphasizing creativity, communication, leadership, and social awareness.

Popular Non-STEM Degree Examples in the USA:

    • Business Management and Marketing
    • Psychology
    • International Relations
    • Hospitality and Tourism
    • Journalism and Media Studies
    • Fine Arts
    • Education and Social Sciences

Benefits of Studying a Non-STEM Degree in the USA:

    • Development of critical soft skills: leadership, communication, and cultural intelligence
    • Excellent fit for careers in business, media, NGOs, hospitality, and education
    • Practical work experience through CPT (Curricular Practical Training)
    • Ideal for those aiming for impactful leadership roles in home countries

Who Should Consider a STEM Degree in the USA?

You should choose a STEM degree if:

    • You want to maximize your work authorization in the U.S.
    • You’re interested in high-growth fields like technology, engineering, or data science
    • You aim for strong global job prospects
    • You value innovation, research, and technical problem-solving

Who Should Consider a Non-STEM Degree in the USA?

You may prefer a Non-STEM degree if:

    • You’re passionate about business, media, tourism, education, or social work
    • You want to develop leadership, creativity, and communication skills
    • You plan to return home and make a difference in your community
    • You’re open to gaining international experience via CPT during studies

STEM vs. Non-STEM: Which is Better for International Students?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. The best choice depends on your:

    • Career goals (technical vs. creative/managerial)
    • Desired work experience duration in the U.S.
    • Long-term plan (settling in the U.S. vs. returning home)

Both degree types offer unique benefits. What matters most is choosing a program that aligns with your personal passions and career aspirations.

FAQs: STEM vs. Non-STEM Degrees in the USA

    1. What is the main difference between STEM and Non-STEM degrees?

STEM degrees focus on technical subjects like science and engineering, while Non-STEM degrees are based on fields like arts, business, and social sciences.

    2. Can I stay longer in the U.S. after graduating with a STEM degree?

Yes, STEM graduates can stay up to 3 years (12 months OPT + 24-month STEM extension). Non-STEM graduates get only 12 months of OPT.

    3. Is a Non-STEM degree less valuable?

Not at all. Non-STEM degrees offer strong leadership and communication skills and open doors to careers in management, media, education, and NGOs.

    4. Can I work while studying a Non-STEM degree in the USA?

Yes. You can gain experience through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) during your studies.

    5. Do all Business degrees count as Non-STEM?

Not always. Some Business degrees like Business Analytics may be STEM-designated depending on the university’s classification.

    6. Which degree type offers better job opportunities globally?

Both do, depending on the industry. STEM degrees are in high demand in tech and engineering, while Non-STEM degrees are sought after in business, media, and education sectors.

    Final Thoughts

Whether you choose a STEM or Non-STEM degree, ensure your decision supports your career ambitions and personal goals. Consider your passion, job market trends, and visa regulations when deciding your path to success in the U.S. and beyond.

Top Mistakes Students Make While Applying to U.S. Universities and How to Avoid Them

    $

Despite rapid globalization, the United States still remains one of the leading destinations for higher education in the world offering an excellent academic structure, cutting-edge research, and global career opportunities. Still, getting admitted to a US institution, particularly as an international student, is quite engaging and it can be confusing to some. One mistake can seriously affect your application or lead to its complete rejection.

In this blog, we will discuss the common mistakes that students make while applying to US universities in addition to the invaluable tips for a successful application. No matter if you apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s program, these tips will help you present a more powerful and flawless application.

    1. Incorrect or Incomplete Information

One of the most basic but also most detrimental mistakes that can be found in a university application is error and omission in filling out the form. These could include:

    • Mistakes in your name, birth date, or contact details
    • Inconsistencies between your application and supporting documents.
    • Not uploading required documents or leaving form fields blank.

    How to avoid it:

Check each field twice before submission. Check that your name is personally identical in every aspect on your passport, academic transcripts, test scores, and applications portal. Prepare a complete checklist of all required documents from each university applied to.

    2. Missing Application Deadlines

There are different deadline types that US universities follow—Early Action, Early Decision, Priority, Regular, and Rolling Admissions. Missing the deadline for any one of these could mean missing your chance to apply or receive scholarships.

    How to avoid it:

Create a calendar of all application deadlines for your chosen schools. Be sure to add reminders a few weeks before each deadline so that, as it often happens, there is time to address technical glitches, delayed documents, or recommender delays.

    3. Poor Selection of the University or Program

One of the biggest mistakes an applicant can make is to choose a school based on the prestige of the program or location without investigating whether the programs offered align with his/her goals. A wrong fit leads to rejections or dissatisfaction after enrollment.

    How to avoid it:

Invest time researching about your faculty, curriculum, specializations, internships, and alumni outcomes. Use LinkedIn or university sites to examine, identify backgrounds and career stages of current students/graduates in the program you are interested in.

    4. Weak or Generic Application Materials

Graduate students are strongly assessed based on the quality of your Statement of Purpose (SoP), Resume, and Letters of Recommendation (LoRs). It plays a significant role in the outcome. Undergraduate students must also pay careful attention to the Common App essay, supplemental essays, and activity list which form the core of your profile. A vague or an average application will not stand out.

    For Graduate Applicants:

    • Statement of Purpose (SoP):
Clearly communicate your academic background, strengths, career goals, and why the program is the right fit for you. It is wise to avoid generic language and tailor the content for each university.
    • Resume:
Focus on your academic achievements, internships or work experience, relevant projects, and leadership roles. Keep it clean and to-the-point.
    • Letters of Recommendation (LoRs):
Choose recommenders who know you well. Provide them with your resume and program details early so that they have enough time to prepare a strong case for your application. It is also important to note that the universities expect these letters to be submitted by the deadline— so, don’t wait until the last minute.

    For Undergraduate Applicants:

    • Common App Essay & Supplements:
You can present yourself in a holistic light to the admission committee in addition to your academic grades and test scores. You can help them better understand who you are and your aspirations by choosing a prompt that can allow you to express your voice, values, and growth which you have gained over the years. For supplemental topics, answer specific questions genuinely instead of giving generic answers.
    • Scholarship Essays:
Many universities offer need-based or merit scholarships that require additional essays. You should highlight your financial need, leadership, or academic merit in these essays depending on the type of scholarship you are applying for.

    5. Not Submitting Applications on Time

Even if everything is prepared, your application will be rejected if you don’t click “submit” before the due date. Students frequently fall into this trap and believe they have finished the process after uploading all necessary documents to their account and neglect to complete it or pay the application cost. So, it necessary to submit the completed application and pay the fees.

    How to avoid it:

Adopt smart strategies. Set a personal deadline to stay on track at least 3–5 days before the actual deadline. You can reach out to your recommenders to confirm that they have submitted their letters and reported all test scores to the university.

    6. Mishandling Test Score Reporting

The universities generally require official score reports sent directly from testing agencies like ETS (for GRE, TOEFL) or College Board (for SAT). However, some students forget to report scores or choose the wrong school codes.

    How to avoid it:

Check each university’s requirements for standardized tests. Some programs waive GRE or SAT scores; others make them optional. In order to avoid any problems, you should always send official reports early, as it can take time to receive and process the document.

    7. Application Tips for an International Student

International applicants often have extra steps to follow and meet additional requirements to submit a successful application.

    Key Mistakes to Avoid:

Not meeting English proficiency requirements: The majority of US colleges want results directly from the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test. Make sure to confirm the policies of each university before assuming that you will be exempted due to your English-medium education.
Confusion Regarding Waivers and Application Fees: Some institutions may eliminate fees for Early Action or Priority applications, or they may charge different fees for overseas applicants. The price of passing up such opportunities can mount.
Delays in Credential Evaluations and Transcripts: A lot of colleges demand that transcripts be translated and/or assessed by WES. Start early because this process takes time.

Tips for a Successful US University Application

    1. Start early inyour research and preparation about 9–12 months before deadlines.
    2. Stay organized using spreadsheets or other medium to track documents, deadlines, fee payments, and submission status.
    3. Get help to review your SoP and essays by teachers or counselors who can help to improve and present your story in a strong fashion.
    4. Reach out to your desired university if you are unclear about a requirement. They are usually happy to help.
    5. Be authentic. Don’t lie about your achievements. People often undermine how important your genuineness can be in building a strong case.

We understand that applying to US universities as an international student can be tricky and challenging but with right guidance it can be handled effectively. Use these tips to make your application thorough, timely, and appealing, regardless of your level of education.

What to Think About Before Choosing a university

Honestly, rankings are helpful, but they are just part of the story. At Edwise Foundation, we always advise students to look at more than just the name. Ask yourself:

What is your area of focus?

Some schools are strong in AI, others in cybersecurity or data science. Look for one that fits your interests.

    Can you afford it?

Budget does matters. Public universities often cost less and many schools offer scholarships for international students.

    Where is it located?

A university near a tech hub can help you find internships and job placements more easily.

What kind of student support is offered?

Career centers, resume workshop and on-campus job fairs can make a big difference in your future plans.
Choosing a university is not just about studying, it is about planning your future.
